This donation-based course is for those who want to learn about the History of Psychology, from our lived experience or recovery perspective. As recovery research was done by William White during his career (1990-2020 approx), psychology had not considered its perspective. Positive Psychology, as a field of research was born in the 1990’s, and with Mindfulness taking root in 2000’s in the West, the field of clinical psychology focused on diagnostics to figure out what is going on pathologically in the individual. Psychology’s medical and legal needs continues to be the blindspot in its application of therapy. Our clinical practice allows us to educate the basics of psychology to the masses, but is also a part of our commitment to being rigorously honest in our recovery, what recovering psychology means to us is adding what recovery means to the practice of psychology. We cannot educate on the practice of clinical psychology unless those who educate on psychology know what that means. Our first observation is that “the physical body being the psychological unconscious” allows us to draw certain historical conclusions that deserve to be noted by someone.
What this course offers an update to the disease/choice debate of addiction and allows Dr. Adam to share the historical context of psychology and recovery, tear and repair, fear and love, and therapy and healing. This course is meant to inspire discussion, promote learning, and its application is to be directly applied.
